The Anatomy Of An Email

This blog post was chosen as one of the Top 10 free email marketing resources by The Email Guide

I'm a big fan of analogies - like thinking about the perfect email being similar to the perfect meal. I believe that when you use comparisons, they tend to stick in your mind more. Last week I spoke at the HiMA (Houston Interactive Marketing Association) luncheon. The topic of the conversation was, "From Creation to Conversion: The Journey of the Perfect Email." I discussed what I consider to be the 6 parts of email:

  1. Forehead/Hair: Preheader
  2. Face (eyes): From name & subject line
  3. Neck and Arms: Navigation bar, sidebar, logo/brand
  4. Midsection (guts): Main call to action
  5. Quads, Knees, Shins: "Other"
  6. Feet: Footer

Do you have other analogies that relate to the wonderful world of email marketing? Please share. We'd love to hear from you.
