In The Next 10 Minutes: Clean Up Your Act!
As a busy marketer, minor account housekeeping may seem to be a low priority. But if there was ever a time where you couldn't find something as quickly as you thought you should have, an account cleanse could be just what you need to streamline your searches! This 10 minute tip will help you drop some of that dead weight so you can quickly and easily access the data you need.
In the next 10 minutes:
- Delete all old test messages. I mean really, do you need those anymore? I’m guess you have hundreds (maybe thousands) of test messages just laying around. Probably makes finding real messages a pain, huh?
- Do you have delivery groups/folders/messages from three or four years ago? Is your ESP really the best place to store that data? It is finally time to download it and keep that data local. If it’s not something you regularly refer to, or utilize, then it’s dead weight that's just making it hard to find what you really need in a timely manner.
- Remove old lists and segments. You made a list/segment for a one-time experiment or message. You never plan on using it again? Get rid of it! If you need to download the data, store it locally so you can always refer back to it.
- Delete old templates. Do old templates with an outdated logo make you cringe? Toss ‘em! Download the HTML and save it somewhere if you ever need it again.
What’s the Value?
First of all, it felt good to delete things didn’t it? Clearing out dead weight does feel good!
Secondly, now you don’t have trudge through pages and pages of results to find what you need.
Obviously, don’t go crazy here, you should keep around relevant information that can be used to help you make future decisions. Example: Holiday metrics from last year, can be used to help analyze holiday performance to help with planning for future years. However, you don’t need to hold onto every piece of data within your ESP. You can download the data and archive it until you do need it.
This is a quick and easy step to clean up your account and make you a faster and happier marketer. So get to cleaning!
